Former Brazilian President Bolsonaro sentenced to 27 years in prison
Bolsonaro was president of Brazil, Latin America’s largest country, from 2019 to 2022. Along with Bolsonaro, seven others, including former ministers and military chiefs, have been convicted in the case.

On social media, his senator son Flavio Bolsonaro wrote, “They (the government) are calling a trial a process whose outcome was known before it was announced.”
A Reuters report said that the conviction of the right-wing former president is feared to further strain the United States with Brazil. On Thursday, US President Donald Trump said that he was surprised and very unhappy about Bolsonaro’s conviction.
Earlier, on July 9, Donald Trump announced that he wanted to impose tough tariffs on Brazil. Because, he said, his far-right ally and former president Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil is being harassed due to political vendetta. Then Trump imposed a 50 percent tariff on some Brazilian products.
